Born on August 4, 1991, on a farm in Woodland, Michigan, Gemini was extraordinary from day one. This Holstein heifer had one body, two heads, four eyes, and two mouths, a condition known as polycephaly . While animals born this way rarely survive more than a few days, Gemini lived for 17 months and 15 days, becoming one of the longest-living two-headed calves ever recorded.

Built Twice as Unbelievable

Gemini’s anatomy was as fascinating as it was rare. She had two noses and two mouths, each capable of eating and swallowing. At the center of her forehead sat a single eye socket containing two non-functioning eyes, which were later removed by a veterinarian.

Gemini's skull was fused into one structure, likely housing two joined brains, working together to control a single body. Despite some challenges, like a misaligned jaw and a cleft palate, Gemini adapted.

She was bottle-fed a special mix of milk and pellets twice a day, carefully cared for to ensure she could thrive despite her complex condition.

Defying Nature’s Expectations

Polycephalic animals typically face overwhelming challenges, from eating to movement and sustaining vital functions. Most don’t survive infancy. Gemini was no stranger to these challenges and lived a remarkable life.
